![]() Can you bring a Rifle scope and a Night Vision monocular on hand luggage on a airplane? I recently purchased a rifle scope and night vision monocular, and i want to take it to Europe this year for hunting but i don't trust the airline's luggage assistance "sort of because of past experience " and i don't want to put those things in the big bags which are not supervised by me because they are really expensive and don't wont them stolen. So i'm curious if i can take them on the airplane in my hand held luggage and if anyone thinks they might make a problem out of it. I see no reason why you could not take both of those items with you in your carry-on. From any kind of security point of view, the scope is no different than binoculars or any other kind of optics - it does not have a sharp edge, is not pointed, explosive or threatening in any way. The monocular part of the night vision equipment is the same thing - just another piece of optics. The only thing that I think they might want to look at more closely could be the electronics associated with the night vision function. In all likelihood, all that anyone might do is to wipe it with a pad, then check that pad in a machine that looks for residues of chemicals typically associated with explosives. If you have been handling gun powder, or have handled either the scope or the night vision gear after shooting, then there could have slight traces of gunpowder residue. If that is the case, then it might take a bit more time to get past the security check, but, personally, I don't see them confiscating anything. Obviously, the firearms that go along with those items are a different story - but you didn't ask about those, so there's nothing else to say. Good luck. |
