What scope should I get for my .17 hmr?
Hey guys, I am in the market to buy a scope for my mossberg 817. I looking to spend around $200 but am willing to maybe go as high as around $300, if I'm really gonna get something worth buying.
This gun will be used for small game and target shooting from around 50-250 yards.
Here is what I've been looking at:
Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 w/ ballistic plex
Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x40 w/ DOA reticle
Nikon Team Primos 3-9x40 w/ BDC reticle
Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40 w/ BDC
Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40 w/ BDC
Any comments on these scopes would really be appreciated because this is a damn hard decision. I like the idea of the reticle with multiple distance points.
Any suggestions besides these scopes? I'm looking for a quality, durable peice of equipment in the $200-300 range. That means...no BSA thanks lol.
Which Leupold models should I consider?
I'd skip the burris. Nikon and Bushnell both make ok scopes in that price range. But if you're going all the way to $300 I'd look hard at leupold.
Personally I put a cheepy tasco 6-24 on my HMR. Cost about $40 shipped off of ebay and works well on prairie dogs. Glass gets poor around 18x, but I expected that. The HMR is a "fun gun" for me, so scopes have to fall into "fun gun" price range, IE <$100. I spend my good scope money on my hunting rifles.
